"Bird Buddy" Classroom Adoption

The "Bird Buddy" kit is a year-long learning experience geared toward elementary school students. 14 activity sheets are designed to supplement environmental lessons and teach the importance of saving birds of prey and preserving their habitat. Poised at the top of the food chain, eagles, hawks and falcons are valuable indicators of the health of our planet. Problems with raptor populations signal serious environmental damage that can affect our lives in countless ways.

Included are word challenges, logic games, short quizzes enhanced with "color-me" pictures, and project ideas.

Students will have fun playing the role of a nestling hawk in "Will You Survive?" Their fate is determined by the series of choices they make in this survival game.

"What Do You Know About Feathers?" combines questions and coloring with the important message that raptors are protected by law--it is illegal to take or keep feathers from any bird of prey.

A word search puzzle in the shape of a Great Horned Owl will both challenge and delight.

Use paper plates, colored paper, pine cones, and cotton balls to construct two different owls.

In addition to the educational materials, the packet includes a color photo and "biography" of the chosen bird, detailed species information, a personalized classroom adoption certificate, 30 "Bird Buddy" ID cards, and an annual subscription to The Avian Reconditioning Center's newsletter, Branching Out.

The "Bird Buddy" kit is available for $45, and the funds help provide food, shelter and medical care for the permanently injured birds residing at The Avian Reconditioning Center.
