Barn Owl Hatchling
A Little Miracle...

A miracle! One of four rescued Barn Owl eggs hatched. The owlet began pipping its way out of the egg and emerged about 36 hours later, weighing only 20 grams. At the tip of the beak is the egg tooth, which is used like a hammer to break or "pip" an opening in the shell. Found in the air conditioning ductwork of a church that was under construction, the eggs were cold and it was uncertain if any would survive.
